Step 1 — Choose 2–3 languages (GEO-first, no guessing)

Pick languages using one of these signals:

  • YouTube Studio → Analytics → Audience → Top geographies (where your viewers already come from)
  • Your genre demand (romance, fantasy, thriller often travel well)
  • Your platform strengths (BookTok pockets differ by country)

Start with 2 languages max. Scale after you see retention + comments.

Suggested beginner picks for global testing (if you have no data yet):

  • Spanish
  • German
  • French

(Choose based on your audience + comfort for quality control.)

Step 2 — Build a “Localization Brief” (copy/paste)

Create one doc: LOCALIZATION_BRIEF_v1 (reuse for every video)

Localization Brief (Template)

- Original language: English
- Target language:
- Audience level: YA / Adult / New Adult
- Tone: cozy / dark / romantic / thriller / epic / comedic
- Keep these terms in English (brand words):
  - Series name:
  - Magic system name:
  - Book title (if unchanged):
- Canon glossary (must be consistent):
  - Character A → (target spelling)
  - Place B → (target spelling)
  - Term C → (target translation)
- “Do not change” rules:
  - POV tense stays the same
  - Key reveal line stays the same meaning
- Sensitivity / taboo list (optional):
  - No-go topic:
  - No-go phrasing:

This prevents “translation drift” that kills your series identity.

Step 3 — Pick ONE excerpt format (don’t mix formats)

Choose ONE of these per campaign:

Format A — 60s Trailer (best for BookTok/Reels/Shorts)

Goal: vibe + stakes + question + CTA.

Format B — Episodic Chapter 1 (best for binge + conversion)

Goal: EP01–EP08 (30–90s each), end every episode with a cliffhanger.

Format C — YouTube “Chapter 1 Movie Cut” (best for watch time)

Goal: one longer video after the short series proves traction.

Start with Format A or B. Only compile later.

Step 4 — Translate the script the right way (spoken-first)

Rules for localized narration:

  • Translate meaning, not words
  • Shorten sentences (spoken rhythm matters)
  • Keep the same structure: Hook → Stakes → Signals → Cliffhanger → CTA
  • Keep on-screen text minimal (2–6 words per card)

If you can’t QC the translation, do NOT scale languages yet.

Step 6 — Publish on YouTube with built-in localization (SEO + GEO)

YouTube supports:

  • translated titles & descriptions
  • subtitle uploads (SRT)
  • multi-language audio tracks (if your channel has access)

YouTube workflow (per language)

  2. Upload SRT subtitle file
  3. (If available) Upload the dubbed audio track as an additional language

Step 7 — Publish on TikTok / Reels like a “native” creator

Short-form algorithm behavior is language + culture sensitive. Do this to look native:

  • Use localized hook text (very short)
  • Keep subtitles on-screen

Step 8 — Tie it to sales (KDP reality check)

Option 1: Market first, translate later (recommended)

Use multilingual videos to validate:

  • which countries engage
  • which language comments ask “where can I read this?”

Then invest in book translation.

Option 2: Publish translated eBooks on KDP

Important realities:

  • Each language version is typically a separate product listing.
  • KDP has rules around AI-generated content disclosure (including AI-generated translations). Follow KDP requirements.

New (late 2025): Kindle Translate (Beta)

Amazon introduced Kindle Translate in beta for some KDP authors:

  • supports limited language directions at launch (beta access)
  • allows authors to manage translations in KDP (select languages, set prices, preview, publish)
  • translated books show a “Kindle Translate” label (per Amazon’s announcement)

Treat Kindle Translate as an optional accelerator if you get access—still do your own QC.

Step 9 — The 7-day “Global Promo Sprint” (repeatable)

  1. Day 1: Pick excerpt + build Localization Brief
  2. Day 2: Write master trailer script (English)
  3. Day 3: Generate master video in StoryTool + export SRT + clean
  4. Day 4: Translate to 1 target language + generate localized version
  5. Day 5: Publish English + localized version (same day)
